THE SIREN
THE HARPY

INTRODUCTION:

Sirens and Harpies are not the same though they share some similarities. Both Sirens and Harpies are of Mediterranean origin and their given names stem from Greek. They are both dangerous creatures; Sirens use their voices to lure people to them, often leading to sailors shipwrecking. Even if the travelers do not end up crashing, Sirens will latch onto ships and climb over the sides in order to grab people and pull them into the sea with them. Harpies are the faceless siblings to sirens with less humanoid forms that carry off wayward souls to their homes atop mountains, cliffs and caves. Sirens and Harpies roam in groups called flocks, most of which have an established hierarchy. They share their kills with each other, sirens often luring in people to kill and harpies taking advantage of the situations they create.

Sirens and Harpies can only be born; someone cannot be turned into one.

DESCRIPTION:

Sirens can be masculine and feminine and are beautiful and typically appear without clothing as they have no real need for them. They have a human body but sport large wings on their back that they can hide for the most part by folding them. While still mostly humanoid, their hands and feet are mildly birdlike, sporting talons. Sirens, if they want to go for a more human look, can shed their wings and talons and extra skin, leaving them behind wherever they were shed.

Harpies are only feminine in figure and bear no face. They do not have arms, they only  have wings and bird-like legs with sharp, long, talons, scales and feathers crawling up their calves. Harpies may also shed off their wings, talons and extra skin if they truly wish to walk among humans unnoticed but this is incredibly uncommon behavior for them.

Abilities

  • Flight: Both Sirens and Harpies have wings large enough to carry their weight and then some. They got big wings. They sure use them.

  • Siren Song: Similar to a Banshee, Sirens have an irresistible, reverberating shriek that attracts people and animals alike toward them in a trance-like state.

Advantages

  • Can see clearly through any visual distortions such as storms and water.

  • Both Harpies and Sirens can see from very far distances without a loss of quality. They see colours a lot more vividly.

  • Similar to the talons of real birds, it’s incredibly difficult to escape the clutches of a Harpy; their leg strength grants them the ability to even tear a grown man in two or sever people’s heads from their bodies.

Disadvantages

  • Both Harpies and Sirens have issues distinguishing whether or not something is behind glass or not (think of birds that run into windows or sliding doors)

  • They have a hard time socially blending in with humans even without their wings and other physical characteristics.

Ways to Kill

  • Anyway that kills a human will kill a siren or harpy though decapitation is a go-to.

RELATIONSHIPS

Sirens and Harpies obviously work together well but due to their clique-y nature they tend to not have much relations with other supernatural creatures. Hunters considered them a nuisance.
